Roanoke Doll Collection in West Wing       DonateNow

Among our sizable collection of 19th and 20th Century dolls are several rare Ella Smith Dolls, also known as Roanoke Dolls or Alabama Indestructible Dolls. Made in Roanoke, Alabama, between 1897 and 1932, Roanoke Dolls are among the most valuable and collectible American Dolls. Ella Smith was the first doll maker in the South to manufacture black dolls. In addition to our doll collection, the museum also maintains a diverse collection of other children's toys, dating from c. 1870 through the 1950s.
